The Ezekiel choke (sode guruma jime) is an air and blood choke applied using your own sleeve. From mount, you thread one hand inside your own sleeve while the other arm reaches behind the opponent's head. You close the choke by driving your sleeved forearm into their throat and pulling their head forward with the other arm.
It is named after Brazilian judoka Ezequiel Paraguassú, who famously used it against BJJ practitioners — demonstrating that judo-derived chokes work from top positions in BJJ.
The Ezekiel is a gi-only technique, as the sleeve is integral to the mechanics. It is particularly effective because it can be set up without arm or collar control — the opponent often does not recognise the grip until it is nearly complete. No-gi versions (using the crook of the elbow) exist but are harder to finish.
